The music of 8 is based on Jazz as the spirit and mindset which then translated into explorative music. 8 emphasized their music in improvisation and live performance. The band formation also strongly influenced by Jazz quartet.
The group was formed by Wildstix in mid 2003 who initiated to form a new music group that able to create pure pieces without following other known music genres. Although experienced personnel changes several times, 8 managed to release the first album, “Windig Notes”, under the brand of 'Academie of FarSide' in December 2004.
8 (back then known as AOFS) performed their music for the first time in June 2005 at Jakarta Bercahaya Indie Music Festival and later performed in various occasions such as Prog Nite. In December 2006 8, under the brand Academie of FarSide, released the second album, “BRADAKOOM!!!”
During 2007, the band continued to appear at various events such as Rhythm Salad on 7-9 September 2007, as long term project to improve music industry in Indonesia by Sacred Bridge Foundation. At Rhythm Salad the band also collaborated with other musician from various backgrounds of contemproary and ethnic. In November 4, 2007, the band performed at Ngayogjazz Festival in Bantul, Yogyakarta and in November 18, 2007, as one of the highlighted acts at Universitas Indonesia 30th Jazz Goes To Campus 2007.
In 2008, AOFS had another major changes as the two of the personnel parted ways from the band. In 2009, with the arrival of new personnel the band was reborn and henceforth the band renamed, 8.
In 2009, 8 released their first ever single in Indonesian language, “ABCD” and in December 2009, the band took part in a Christmas compilation album, A Very Progressive Christmas-Vol.1, released by Melodic Revolution Records, with their single “A Reason”. In the same month, 8 had their first public performance under the new name and line up at Indonusa Music Festival, held at Indonusa Esa Unggul campus.
8 continued their stellar performance in 2010 at Tarumanagara University's SPARTA 2010 on March 3, 2010, as one of the main acts in the four-day event.
